What happens in psychotherapy and counseling:
I have focused on providing quality services in a timely manner to individuals with various needs. Here are some examples of individuals with whom I have worked. The details have been changed to protect the confidentiality of my clients:
A 38-year-old woman with intense anxiety. She was successful in her family and her profession, but struggled with substantial anxiety, especially in social situations. Since she was doing well in most situations, we focused primarily on how she thought about such situations, especially how she evaluated herself in such situations. She changed some views of herself that had been formulated in childhood.
A 46-year-old man who felt that he was not moving forward in his life. He had done reasonably well, but felt stuck personally and professionally. We focused on setting a clear direction in his life, and then developing a plan involving priorities and daily activities to achieve the goals he had set.
A couple who had been married for eight years. They recently experienced a crisis in their marriage as she had become involved with another man. We focused on how they came to this point, and what they wanted to happen now.
A 62-year-old woman who had suffered from longstanding depression. She had been on medication for many years, and now needed something more as her husband had developed a chronic and terminal illness. We focused on her feelings and emotions involving the grief about her husband’s illness, her role as a caretaker, and the changes that were coming in her life.
An 18-year-old male adolescent whose grades had deteriorated greatly in the past year due in part to extensive marijuana and some methamphetamine usage. This adolescent was in considerable conflict with his parents. We worked on helping him develop an individual identity, resources to allow him to eliminate his drug usage, and reconciliation with his family.
